Padang(12/09/2017) - This river that flows across the parts of Padang city with many creeks is called Banda Kali. So called because the process of making it by dredging the soil from along the mountain and empties offshore. Has been formed since the Dutch colonial era, Banda Kali become an emergency water source for the citizens of Padang in times of crisis. In 2009 during an earthquake that paralyzed most of the energy sources in Padang city like electricity, plumbing, even electronic signals, Banda Kali plays a big role to provide sufficient water source for people in need. People use water from banda kali to bathe, wash clothes, wash kitchen utensils, even cooked the water to drink.
With such big role for the city, citizen of Padang should be able to maintain the cleanliness of the river well. But what is visible from the appearance of Banda Kali is currently covered by a lot of garbage. Banda Kali is still often used as a trash for the people, even causing a lot of soil to accumulate on the wall of the river. The piling soil is mounting which eventually leads to growing many wild plants that disturb the view of the river. After all these years with such conditions, it seems the government began to pay attention to cleanliness of the city. It can be seen from many revamping project on the neatness of sidewalks and city parks, including Banda Kali.
Several time ago before the start of Ramadan in June, 2017, the government sent heavy equipment to dredge the soil that already mounting. This is certainly the right and good action to re-clean the riverbank walls. Not just getting rid the mounting soil, it also pulls irregular wild plants like some coconut trees. But unfortunately this cleaning is not done perfectly, the soil and the leftover tree of cleansing are left lying on the shoulders of the river bank. This condition is certainly not much different from before the cleaning, even a few months later this condition is still not addressed until now. We hope that immediately there is handling on this matter.
I saw it too, banda kali is still dirty and such a mess. Trash everywhere and wild plant grow uncontrolled, I hope the government make a move about this.

BalasHapusYeah, I know I'm wishing for something impossible. But if the citizen know how to obey the rules and the government make a move asap, Banda Kali could be a better river.
